Research shows that children who learn to read early go on to succeed both in school and in life. To ensure that all of our children leave our school as confident and competent readers, we follow Read, Write Inc. Phonics. 

What is Read Write Inc. Phonics? 

Read Write Inc. Phonics is a systematic and structured phonics program designed to help children learn to read and write effectively. Developed by Ruth Miskin, it provides engaging, multi-sensory learning experiences that cater to diverse learning styles. 

Key Features: 

Structured Approach: The program teaches phonics in a systematic way, enabling children to build their reading and writing skills progressively.  

Daily Sessions: Children participate in daily phonics and reading sessions that last around 45 minutes, focusing on the sounds of letters, blending sounds to read words, and segmenting words to write them. 

Decodable Books: Students read books that match their phonics learning, ensuring they can apply their skills immediately and gain confidence. 

Assessment and Progress Tracking: Regular assessments help identify students’ needs and ensure they are placed in the appropriate group for targeted support. 

Parental Involvement: 

We encourage parents to support their children’s learning at home by: 

Reading together daily.

Practicing phonics sounds and blending at home.

Engaging with the decodable books provided.

Encouraging children to watch the RWI videos sent home on Google Classroom or via the QR codes sent home
